About the Site

The Piano Nerd creates reference pages organized by composition.  Look up a composition, and learn something new!

The Piano Nerd is…

  • A CONSTANT WORK-IN-PROGRESS: Obviously, this is a new site. But when a composition is added, we are fairly confident you’ll run across something you didn’t know before!
  • FREE: Through our affiliation with Google Ads, Amazon.com, and Sheetmusicplus.com, we are able to offer our content free of charge.  If you would like to advertise with us, just send us an email through our contact page.
  • INFORMATIVE: Information related to compositions may include the following…
    • History: Information directly related to the origin/development of a composition, or its context in a larger opus or collection.
    • Tactile Tips:  Suggestions on performance practice, hand divisions, fingering and the physical act of playing. Ignore them if you don’t like them, but some find them helpful.
    • Editions:  The Piano Nerd sometimes describes various editions, their benefits, and their mistakes (including typographical errors) as accurately as possible.  Please contact him if there is incorrect information in these sections.
    • Recommended Recordings: The Piano Nerd tries to identify recordings with unique and thoughtful interpretations. Others might highlight an aspect of the score in a noteworthy way.  Sheer virtuosity and intrigue never hurts either! In other words, these aren’t meant to be comprehensive or thoughtless lists. They are filtered and a good starting point for building your own collection of recordings.
    • Trivia:  Information related to the composition not falling under the other categories.
  • ALWAYS EXPLORING: In addition to references pages for individual compositions, the Piano Nerd will add pages on a variety of piano-related topics over time.
