Rachmaninoff – Mélodie, Op. 3 No. 3 (Revised 1940)

Rachmaninoff’s E-Major Mélodie, as well as the well-known C#-Minor Prelude, are part of his Op. 3 Morceaux de Fantaisie (Fantasy Pieces). This collection was composed at the age of 19. But Rachmaninoff returned to two of these pieces, this No. 3 Mélodie and the No. 5 Sérénade, in 1940 for some major revisions to both. Later piano works published by his American publisher, Charles Foley, are still under copyright in the USA, including the revised Mélodie, whose 1940 copyright was renewed by the publisher in 1968.
